SAVANNAHS

Dreams Do Come True

With coming from a animal loving family and always growing up with them, my father and I also used to love breeding working dogs, chickens and ducks! From a very early age I always new I wanted to be a veterinary nurse so then it started! After experiencing Africa I started showing my Bedlington terrier. At this point I met my (then would be future husband) he then shared my love for animals
and I wanted him to experience breeding and share the love and joy as I did. We then married and as a Veterinary Nurse I took home a little stray DSH kitten who was the most loving cat you could meet. He was called Mufasa, with him being already used to being outside we used to let him go out.

One morning just getting into bed from a night on call, there was a knock on the door. I instantly had a knot in my stomach as Mufasa wasn’t in his usual spot at the bottom of my bed. My neighbor brought his collar to the door sadly telling me he had been knocked over and killed on the road at the back of our house. In Pjs, dressing gown, bear feet (and 6months pregnant) I ran and scooped him up off the road, I knew he had been killed instantly which was some comfort to know he didn’t suffer. I cried for days and we decided if we got another cat they would never go out, so we decided to get a pedigree cat so we had some sort of excuse to keep it in. We researched the breed and got to know the breeder, which is when we decided to give F2 Savannah called Lara a home and got her on the active register incase we decided to breed, which we did! Our married name is Scott and we love spots, so we decided to register our cattery as Scottyspots.

My husband is a labourer so he decided to build a small mesh enclosure built onto the back of our house, so we could enjoy time outside with Lara in the summer. We when extended and added living quarters in as we decided to get our first Savannah stud called Cosmo.
We had a little girl at this stage and always wanted to give cats there own space, so we decided to add another separate enclosure to our cattery so we could separate Cozmo and Lara when we didn’t want any kittens. Our cattery got another enclosure added as we imported a male Kovu from America.
The boys didn’t obviously get on once they reached sexual maturity so had to be separate. Our dream was always to own a Serval and F1 Savannah and we put so much into trying to achieve our dreams, more than anyone will ever know.

Our dreams actual came true as we applied and successfully got our Dangerous Wild Animal license (DWAL). We then found a well known breeder in Peterborough where we would find the most spectacular member of our family. The breeder is a very important part of buying a cat or kitten and she was amazing. We now have our Serval called George Of The Jungle.
The money off our kittens always gets put back into improving our line so we have now recently extended out DWAL area for George our Serval and have 3 separate enclosures with half sleeping areas and wipe down walls. We always try to better our cattery and our line to give them the best we can and improve our living arrangements as much as physically possible.

We put everything into our cats, they are not just breeding cats they are our family first and foremost. This is a hobby for us as we love to bring kittens into the world and see people so happy when they collect their babies, just like the emotion we feel on receiving our fur babies. We help people find the right breed and generation that suits both the cat and people in the home, it’s not a one generation suits all so this is why you need to work closely with your breeder and find one you trust. After all the home is our top priority for our kittens and always will be.
